Lidice is a small village in Central Bohemia that was destroyed on June 10, 1942. After the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich (May 1942), the village was razed to the ground on the command of Karl Hermann Frank. Nevertheless, the intention of the Nazis to erase the village from the map of the world was never successful. Lidice were restored and many communities around the world bear the name in honor of Lidice. The story of Lidice is one of the most crucial and saddest chapter in history of the Czech Republic (under Nazi occupation the country was known as the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia).
